Challenge

In one of Season 2’s most emotionally charged episodes, the story briefly detours into a time long before the show’s present day—a moment that couldn’t be shown directly in narrative terms, yet needed to be deeply felt.

This wasn’t a flashback. It was something softer, more fragmented. A memory that traveled through places, impressions, and nearly-lost faces. The visual system we had developed for Season 1 had to stretch: to hold not just story, but time.

Goal

We created a series of short animated scenes, designed to act less like inserts and more like transitions between emotional states.

These sequences moved through imagined landscapes—streets of Danish suburbs, a plane above the clouds, a snowy Paris morning, a girl holding a glass sphere. Places where memory felt both anchored and drifting.

Result

To bring the characters into these imagined spaces, we began with carefully selected still photographs and subtly manipulated them—youngening faces, adjusting expressions, integrating them into scenes that hinted at personal histories never fully told.

The goal was never to recreate the past, but to suggest it: quietly, and with feeling.

Alongside this work, we also redefined the iconography and episode title designs for the new season—preserving the visual identity of the series, while allowing it to absorb more nuance and emotional weight.
